Marcel Hug
BUILT TO BREAK LIMITS
Marcel Hug
Swiss Paralympic wheelchair racer dominating long-distance events on the world stage.
Fourth Generation
Linear Reluctance Motor
The Marcel Hug pod is powered by our fourth custom developed linear reluctance motor. Optimized for performance it achieves up to 48.6kW power.

Hybrid Electromagnetic Suspension
All carbon passenger cabin
- Houses all electronics
- Seating for one passenger
- All carbon shell
- Internal pressure of 0.8 bar

Custom Power Electronics
Fully custom developed power converters enable the electromagnetic functionality of the pod.

Proven Booster Design
Marcel Hug stays compatible with our already existing booster. With updated electronics the booster becomes even more performant delivering up to 72kW power and accelerating the pod at up to 1.2g.

Vacuum compatible cooling
Our custom built vacuum cooling module enables continous operation in vacuum. The heat of electronics and electromagnetics is absorbed by the phase change of a parafix wax.

Regenerative braking
Regenerative braking enables capturing kinetic energy and converting it into electrical energy, which can be stored and reused to improve overall system efficiency.

Our team consists of 28 students from both ETH Zurich and HSG.
THE TEAM

Custom BMS
Our custom battery management system ensures safe operation of our batteries and provides power to our entire prototype.

Pressure regulation system
Our second generation pressure regulation system with CO2 scrubber keeps the Pod’s internal pressure stable at 0.8 bar, even in case of leakage and keeps the atmosphere breathable.

Uncompromizing Safety
Safety is a paramount part of our prototype. At every stage of the design process, safety was prioritized to ensure reliable operation under all conditions. From component selection to system integration, each decision was made with careful consideration of potential risks, implementing safeguards and redundancies wherever necessary.

Partners make it all possible
Without the support of partners it would not have been possible for us to build Marcel Hug. Thank you to all our supporters!
